The post holder will work at Cygnet St Williams and will be clinically supervised by the Head OT onsite.

Responsible for:

  • Supporting OT service delivery within the Neuropsychiatry Services
  • Working under the supervision of the Head Occupational Therapist at Cygnet St Williams

Cygnet St Williams (Darlington, Northeast):

This is an exciting post for an individual who wishes to develop their knowledge, skills and understanding of the Occupational Therapy profession within this role as an Occupational Therapy Assistant. The role offers a unique opportunity within Neuropsychiatry Services here at St Williams. The ser vice consists of in-patient rehabilitation at St Williams, stepdown service at River View and inputting into the Hyper-acute pathway at Cygnet Victoria House.

The Unit has access to its own occupational therapy resources, including a Therapy kitchen, Multi-functional outdoor space, including gardens and accessible bathrooms. In addition to this, the OT team have a close working relationship with other members of the clinical team

Cygnet St William's is a 12-bed neuropsychiatric service offering care and treatment to those affected by acquired brain injuries. It is a safe and secure place to aid recovery, as well as offering those diagnosed with a progressive neurological disease, like Huntington's Disease, a caring and longer-term placement to support and help manage the progression of their symptoms.

You will be responsible for providing direct clinical interventions under the direction of an experienced, qualified Occupational Therapist. In this role, you will assess, implement and develop an occupational therapy treatment programme to meet the patients' needs to support them with their recovery in collaboration with the multi-disciplinary team.

You will carry a clinical caseload on your identified wards, working closely with the multi-disciplinary teams. Joint working across the different wards will provide additional learning and professional development opportunities. In-house and external training is provided (as required) to support you in developing your professional skills.

Cygnet St William's has received the highest possible rating following a comprehensive assessment as part of Headway's Approved Provider Scheme.

The scheme uses specialist standards designed to reflect the complex and highly individual needs of people living with acquired brain injuries (ABI), evaluating services including hospitals, neuro-rehabilitation units, residential homes and respite facilities.

Cygnet St William's was rated Outstanding a cross all assessment domains, including Workforce Development and Governance, Leadership, Management and Quality, Culture, Systems and Processes, Service Delivery and Environment.

Inspectors praised the service's "person-centred approach", compassionate and trauma-informed care, and the way patients are actively involved in decisions about their treatment and recovery.

Occupational Therapy Directorate
