Cygnet Forestwood

Cygnet Bury is a large site with 15 wards across three separate hospitals. We have a Regional Lead of Occupational Therapy and three Head Occupational Therapists on site to support the different services at Cygnet Bury.

Our CAMHS hospital (Forestwood) is made up of four wards, each with their own OT. Across the site there is support from a wide range of OTs with varying skills and experience to support your continued learning and professional development.

You would be responsible for the assessment and treatment of occupational dysfunction for up to 12 young people who are service users in an inpatient setting. Our service users have a range of mental health difficulties, and may display behaviours that challenge, they could be d etained under the Mental Health Act or be admitted informally to the ward. You will be supported by a team consisting of two Band6 OTs and a Head OT, and by experienced OT Assistants and MDT colleagues.

Our CAMHS unit in Forestwood Hospital has services for young people needing Psychiatric Intensive Care (PICU), Acute Care or care in a low secure setting. You will work with a full multidisciplinary team in a coordinated way to support each young person to develop their skills and move through our clinical model of care from admission to discharge.

All our services are therapy and recovery focused, providing assessment, treatment and rehabilitation. The aim is to effectively progress service users though the service care pathway, into the least restrictive environment possible while working to reduce the possibility of readmission back into care.

Occupational Therapy CPD, Preceptorship & Induction:

Our teams are passionate and dedicated to the care and treatment of service users, but also to the development of student OTs and preceptorship OTs. You will also be an integral part of OT student education and partnership working with our local universities to contribute to training and education for yourself and others.

This role includes opportunities for learning, development and research, supported by a robust appraisal and supervision structure based on RCOT's Career Development Framework.

We offer a three week service induction programme that includes classroom learning, e-learning and shadow shifts. We also offer an Occupational Therapy twelve month preceptorship programme to support and consolidate core Occupational Therapy Skills for newly qualified OTs. This preceptorship programme has received much praise over the past 3 years from our Band 5 OTs who have felt it has significantly supported their transition from student to confident practitioner. Many of whom have t hen been supported to develop their careers within Cygnet, up to their next level of practice as Band 6 clinicians.
